Nelson Airport

Nelson enjoys one of the best aviation climates in the country, and our students have few interruptions to their flying programs caused by bad weather.

Nelson is the largest urban area in the upper South Island, positioned on the shore of Tasman Bay. Often know as ‘the top of the south’, Nelson Tasman takes up the northwestern corner of the South Island. Nelson city (Population 50,000) is a 5 hours drive from Christchurch. By air, Nelson just 30 mins from Wellington, 40 mins from Christchurch, and 1.5 hours from Auckland. Nelson Airport (Maori: Te Papa Waka Rererangi o whakatu) (IATA: NSN, ICAO: NZNS), located 6 km South-west of central Nelson, is the sixth busiest airport in New Zealand with 1.2 million passengers movements annually.

Nelson often tops New Zealand’s sunshine hours (nickname Sunny Nelson, around 2,500 hours of sunshine per year). Nelson’s port is the largest deep -sea fishing port in Australasia. There are also a range of growth industries, including art and craft, aviation, engineering technology, and information technology.
The region is famous for naturally beautiful scenery, including the Marlborough Sounds, Abel Tasman National Park ans Farewell Spit. Living and training in Nelson allows you an opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
