By air, Nelson just 30 mins from Wellington, 40 mins from Christchurch, and 1.5 hours from Auckland. Nelson Airport (Maori: Te Papa Waka Rererangi o whakatu) (IATA: NSN, ICAO: NZNS), located 6 km South-west of central Nelson, is the sixth busiest airport in New Zealand with 1.2 million passengers movements annually.
Nelson often tops New Zealand’s sunshine hours (nickname Sunny Nelson, around 2,500 hours of sunshine per year). Nelson’s port is the largest deep -sea fishing port in Australasia. There are also a range of growth industries, including art and craft, aviation, engineering technology, and information technology.
